Unified Communications: The Future is Mobile
Business Applications Turn iPhone and Android Mobile Phones into All-round Genius
Munich/Hallbergmoos, Germany, December 1st – After the successful market launch of the first mobile phone with the open source operating system Android in the USA and Great Britain experts in other countries are anxiously looking forward to the delivery of this smartphone in Germany (first quarter 2009). Since the Android mobile phone directly competes with other mobile devices (iPhone, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry) – last but not least because of the variety of possible applications. Beside the standard applications (display of websites, sending emails and photos, online access to maps/city maps, access to contacts) the Munich-based unified communications specialist ANDTEK GmbH provides additional applications offering the possibility to handle the business communication via mobile network using iPhone and Android smartphones and thus put same virtually in the pocket.
Android is a Linux- and Java-based operating system for mobile devices like smartphones and mobile phones. The open source operating system was developed by the „Open Handset Alliance“ under Google‘s auspices. This alliance consists of more than 30 renowned companies like for example T-Mobile, Sprint, Telecom Italia, NTT DoCoMo, eBay, Motorola, Samsung and China Mobile – being the biggest mobile phone provider with approximately 350 million customers.
In the USA and Great Britain the first Android mobile phone ("G1" by T-Mobile) was launched successfully last October. Only in the USA 1.5 million people ordered this mobile phone within two weeks (for comparison: The first iPhone-version needed 74 days until the millionth mobile phone was sold.).
According to T-Mobile the market launch in Germany of the "G1" is definitely planned to be done in the first quarter of 2009. Other providers like Samsung or Motorola will follow without doubt. The Chinese smartphone producer Huawei intends to launch an Android mobile phone for the OEM-market. By means of this sales channel distributors and dealers can easily sell devices providing individual software equipment under one's own name (in contrast for example to the iPhone), since the main part of Android is developed on open source basis and thus free of licenses.
The developer spirit barely knows bounds. On „Android Market“ an open marketplace especially for Android applications software developers have the possibility to add their applications and to offer same for download similar to "Youtube". From games, web radio up to superior business applications it shall be possible to install any type of contents on the smartphone.
Additionally to direct installations of applications on the mobile phone it is possible to use further services via the sophisticated web browser.
ANDTEK's solution "AND Mobile" uses this variant to integrate mobile business communication on the smartphone directly into the company network. By means of the web oriented architecture (WOA) these functions are not only available on Android mobile phones but also on other devices independent from the operating system (for example all functions are also available for the iPhone). Thus mobile business applications can be used with mobile phones of various manufacturers without causing a complicated change within the company.
The flexibility of "AND Mobile" allows the companies and users to utilize the smartphones for business communications and to communicate via the company network.
Using "AND Mobile" offers the following advantages:
- Web-based services offer the advantage that applications have not to be installed on the mobile phone. This way it is possible to realize a fast migration of a great number of users into the company network and it is a lot easier to realize the use of mobile phones of different manufacturers. - All web-based services and applications can be delivered to mobile devices without restrictions. Beside the iPhone it is thus also possible to carry out a simple integration of Android smartphones into the company network. - Since no information is stored on the mobile phone, the company data is safe. In case the mobile phone gets lost or will be stolen, the company can block access at any time. This central administration allows the user administration and a detailed access control. - The connection to the company network allows the user to start mobile phone calls and to execute same via the company network (via fixed-line phone network). Additionally to better cost control this function also offers the possibility to achieve a clear separation of private and business calls. - By the integration into the company network the entire communication is done via a company number (Single Number Reach), no matter if one initiates the phone call with company desk phone or the mobile phone. On top of this users have access to the company call list even if they are away. Therefore it is possible to have one common call list for the mobile and the fixed-line network phone. - Since the communication is controlled via the internet, phone conferences can be done via smartphone independent from the location and with any number of participants. The existing conference services of the company network are used to carry out the conferences. - The status of all company phones is displayed on the user's smartphone and they can see, which colleagues are available. To provide this function only for a certain number of users it is possible to block any person via the server. - Via the smartphone mobile workers have access to company databases like e.g. CRM data (Customer Relationship Management). In case the mobile device will be lost the confidentiality of the company data is not compromised, since the data is not stored on the smartphone but are provided via the mobile phone network.
